Candle Magic - Quick, Cheap, Safe, Effective. When I first started out I started out with candle magic. And it ended up so very effective its still what I mostly use today. NOTICE: NEVER leave a candle burning unattended. Never burn candles in places children or pets can reach. Supplies: One Candle: I pick mine up at the local metaphysic book store I work at. They only cost $.25 each and they are the nice solid colored ones. Not white on the inside. It is best to pick a color the represent the bases of your intent. Also you only need a small candle. Since to fully completed this ritual you will be letting it burn out completely. green: prosperity growth healing purple: enlightiment, psychic abilities yellow: Joy happiness Gold: money white: purifying, extra energy (sometimes I burn a white candle with another to add power) black: protection, to end things (use this to draw bad influences out of your life) red/pink: Love, strength, courage blue: tranquility, peace, Pretty much the basic tradition color meanings. One Candle stand per candle used: I guess you could just set the candle up on something that it can burn out on other then a stand. But a stand is safer to keep the candle from falling over. Sharp Tool: Most people use their athame or ceremonial blade. But any sharp pointed tool will work. Since I am big into crystals I use an old amber native American arrow head. Herbs: (optional) Herbs that represent your intent Essential Oil: (optional) scents that represent your intent Incense ash: (optional) Sage: (optional) Crystals: (optional) crystals that represent your intent. A lot of these tools are optional. The ritual: Step One: Select a candle that is colored to represent you intent. I often smudge my candle before use by holding the candle over a smoldering (not burning) sage bundle. Sage smoke helps to cleans the candle, the area around you, and instills a sort of ready vibration. Sometimes I lay the candle on a bed of crystals the night before to help energize it. Step Two: Next take your sharp tool and carve your intent on the candle (some people like to carve it in Runes or Ogham but that’s not necessary) Avoid carving a persons name unless you are sending them light energy or healing. Never use this ritual to “bind” another. Remember even if you are sending them positive energy they have free will and can choose to reject your helpful intentions. If you ever intend to do work for another person it is best to get their permission or in your intent keep in mind “If they so will it”. Step Three: Run your hands from base to wick of your candle making sure to move your hands in a clockwise direction around the candle as you do focus on your intent. Bring it strongly to mind and empower the idea. I often chant it to myself for the spoken word is in itself creative energy. If you wish to use herbs, essential oils, or incense ash this is when you would be rubbing them onto the candle (whether alone or as a mixture). Step Four: Place the candle into the candle holder. And place it somewhere safe where it will not be disturbed. Preferably your altar if you have one. I will often place things on my altar along with it that represent my intent as well. (For instance when I cast a prosperity spell I included a crystal frog, a luck cat, a large piece of selenite, and some old coins) Step Five: Now its time to light the candle. Don't rush this step. Remember as you are lighting the candle that the flame is going to ignite your intent and send it to the heaves. Carrying it to the Goddess/Universe. Keep this understanding heavy in your mind. As you light the candle focus on your intent again focus on it becoming alive with the flame. Usually when I light the wick I say “So mote it be” Step Six: Let the candle burn itself all the way out. So that it releases all the energy you put into it. Only blow it out if you have to. Like leaving the house unattended or it becomes dangerous. Remember if you do have to blow it out you have still sent the energy out into the universe. It just will not have all the force behind it. You can relight the candle and continue the ritual later but you may find that the outcome might have a stutter to it. But never use a half used candle for a different purpose then the first casting. The energy will become confused. A few extra tips: Using the moon: To bring things into your life use the waxing moon. To end things or get influences out of your life use the waning moon. Make the ritual your own. Add your own tools, chants, incantations, etc. One of the great things about candle magic is you can only add to its energy by adding momentum to your intent. Anything that helps you focus will help. The more you personalize it the better. Remember always you are responsible for your actions. Respect the free will of others, and do all rituals and spells with love and kindness in your heart. Blessings |
